The Elements of Great Brand Photos (from the Perspective of a Web Designer)

Having great photo assets to work as a web designer makes my job so much easier and way more fun! In addition to having a stunning website that positions you in the way you want, the right images will help you communicate your brand values, showcase your products or services, and connect with your target audience.

Here are some key elements that make for great branding photos from a web designer's perspective:

1. High Quality: Quality is key when it comes to branding photos. Images should be clear, crisp, and high-res.

2. Different orientations: Photos that are horizontal and have extra space on the sides will provide options for beautiful banner images.

3. Clean/minimal backgrounds: A clean background will be much easier to modify in Photoshop if it has to be expanded.

4. On-brand: Brand colours can be incorporated in subtle ways, such as through jewellery, accessories, decor, or additional props that make sense for your business.

5. Authentic: Let your personality shine! Feel free to be a little silly…those candid, behind-the-scenes moments are gold.

6. Engaging: Images that tell a story or evoke emotion are engaging and effective. If there’s a chance to be artistic, abstract or whimsical, go for it!

7. Relevant & consistent: Photos should be relevant to the content on the website and should give a clear picture of what it’s like to work with you.

8. B-roll: Photos of objects, supplies, or materials that you use in your business make great supplementary images for banners and service descriptions.
